I carry the name Tkal Gy’am Laxha and I am Gisgaast from Wilps Gwii Yeehl. My mother was “Wax Gyap” (Gloria Stevens) and my father held the name “Wii Minoosik” (Robert Stevens). I was born and raised in Anspayaxw.
I have been involved in Forestry since I graduated from high school. I started out as a labourer for Anspayaxw Development Corp after which I did move to Vancouver Island where I lived and worked for almost 18 years. I worked for both a large Forestry Company in the planning department and worked and managed a first nations Community Forest License where I was fortunate enough to have exposure to all phases of forestry: the planning, block development, GIS Mapping, supervising the harvesting, contract administration, log brokering, the budgeting and the regeneration of harvesting blocks.
I joined the Babine Watershed table in August of 2018 to facilitate for the Babine Simgiigyat. In 2021 my role evolved to address resource issues on all of the active watershed tables. I find the position to be a very challenging but very rewarding role.
I believe that my work history has brought knowledge and understanding of the forestry and resource industries along with the people involved in forestry and resources that I can bring forward to the Gitxsan simgigyat and the Gitxsan people to help protect our Laxyip, and implement our ayookw and our values into all resource issues.
