Rob Matthews
Hello my name is Rob Matthews
My Gitxsan name is Gyetm Gwiis Giigeenix (big man from the east). I’m from the house of Niis Noohl – Ray Jones, Wilp Sto’om Hloxs. Gisgaast.
I’ve worked for the Gitksan Watershed Authorities (GWA) for 3 years as a fisheries Technician, in those years I was able to get trained up in swift water rescue, some GIS Courses, Wilderness Advanced First aid, Advanced Drone training, plotting areas with LIDAR and Thermal cameras. I’ve also got a good look at some of the territories in the Kispiox Valley and getting helicoptered into remote areas hiking and counting salmon in salmon bearing creeks. I Also have my welding certificate and helped GWA build an Aluminum fish fence for one of their projects. I Took a 9-month welding course in Terrace at Northwest Community college and completed the course quite a few years back.
I Love to hunt. I am always out hunting or getting firewood for my parents and brothers’ family, I manage to get one or two bull moose a year to help my family and friends. I’m starting to get into the teaching of what I’ve learned throughout the 25+ years of hunting. I have some nieces and nephews that want to learn how and now I have the time to teach them.
I hope to bring my skills onboard with the Gitxsan Laxyip Management Office to help out the best I can.
